Combining everything that makes Opticron travelscopes the first choice for thousands of users worldwide, the MM4 62 GA VHD delivers on the maxim "smaller, lighter, brighter, sharper" , a supremely compact, versatile instrument built for accurate long-range observation on the move.
Designed and manufactured in Japan, the compact VHD optical system keeps the body to just 235mm (9.3") in length, while lightweight polycarbonate and aluminium alloy construction brings the weight down to 788g (27.8oz), roughly the same as a pair of 42mm binoculars. That makes it genuinely usable without a support at magnifications below 20x, delivering crystal-clear, flat-field observation handheld. Unlike binoculars, however, it will resolve stunning clarity and definition up to 45x when paired with an SDL or HR3 zoom eyepiece.
At the heart of the scope sits a 62mm ED triplet objective within a fully multi-coated optical system, producing high-contrast, colour-accurate images across the field. Fine adjustment comes via a wide wheel focuser with an accurate 9:1 dual-speed focus system, allowing rapid acquisition followed by precise final focus, with a close focus of 3.9m (12.8ft).
The 45° angled body is the natural choice for prolonged observation, digiscoping and shared viewing. It allows the tripod to sit lower and more stably, takes the strain out of scanning upwards for raptors or hillsides, and lets observers of differing heights share the same setup without constant readjustment. Paired with the large-footprint ±90° rotating tripod sleeve and standard 1/4" thread, you can rotate the body to whichever eyepiece position suits the terrain and your posture, without ever unmounting the scope.
Built for travel, the body is fully protected in soft-touch textured NBR rubber armour and is nitrogen gas filled and waterproof, so condensation and poor weather needn't cut a session short.
The MM4 62 is compatible with Opticron HR2/HR3, HDF and SDL eyepieces, so existing fieldscope owners can simply transfer their eyepiece across to an MM4 body. For general observation we recommend the SDLv4 15-45x (41280) or the HR3 16-48x (41145).
Supplied in body only format with an integrated rubber objective lens cover. Eyepiece sold separately.
