Our Partners
Paignton Zoo and Newquay Zoo, together with three nature reserves including Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve, Primley Park and Clennon Gorge, are all part of the charity Wild Planet Trust.
Wild Planet Trust co-ordinates wildlife conservation projects both in the UK and overseas, as well as research projects on topics such as animal behaviour, nutrition, enrichment and ecology.
Wild Planet Trust is helping to halt species decline and acts to protect at-risk animals and plants from the impacts of biodiversity loss. We believe that every species is important, everything is connected and every action matters.
Both Paignton Zoo and Newquay Zoo are members of the British & Irish Association of Zoos & Aquariums (BIAZA). BIAZA is a conservation, education and wildlife charity representing over 100 of the best zoos and aquariums in Britain and Ireland.

Cornwall Wildlife Trust - one of 46 Wildlife Trusts working across the UK - believes in a wilder future for Cornwall, where our wildlife and wild places are cherished for all to enjoy. With the support of our members, we implement projects on land and at sea, conducting campaigns and managing wild spaces to ensure nature in Cornwall thrives for future generations.
We want our nature reserves to reverberate with the joyful sounds of wildlife, to be havens in which rare species flourish and colourful plants thrive.
But we’re not just concerned about the space within those boundaries – this work spills out from natures reserves into our conservation on land. We want Cornwall’s hedgerows & heathlands, footpaths & farmlands, wildflower meadows & woodlands to burst with wildlife. We want to ensure badgers are vaccinated, to help beavers create new habitats, to make a hole for every hedgehog, and to see choughs remain on our cliffs as well as our crest.

Mike worked for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) at their headquarters in Bedfordshire, for 9 years after he left Middlesex art College in 1983. His bird illustrations can be seen on nearly every RSPB reserve, his paintings are used as identification cards, also several large murals in information centres and hides as well as the RSPB website. His work is versatile as can be seen on the various pages of this website.
Mikes uses his extensive knowledge of birds in and around South Devon to lead walks for small groups and take individuals out for full day or morning birding. He has discovered several new species for Devon, Pacific Diver, Caspian Gull, Iberian Chiffchaff, Siberian Stonechat, Scopoli’s Shearwater and one new species for Britain Yelkouan Shearwater which lingered off Berry Head. He started a popular Cirl Bunting winter feeding station at Broadsands in 1998 which he still maintains. In 2014 he found the first breeding Firecrests in Devon and he still regularly monitors this rapidly increasing population.
